Evaluación de una intervención nutricional para mejorar la calidad de vida de pacientes con cáncer de mama en un hospital de Tegucigalpa (Honduras)

Introducción:
El cáncer de mama es una de las neoplasias más prevalentes en mujeres y una causa importante de mortalidad en Honduras. Su impacto trasciende el ámbito físico, afectando la calidad de vida a nivel emocional, social y nutricional. En el entorno de consulta externa, estas dimensiones suelen quedar fuera del abordaje clínico tradicional.
Objetivos:
Implementar y evaluar un plan de intervención con enfoque integral para mejorar la calidad de vida de pacientes con diagnóstico de cáncer de mama atendidas en la consulta externa de oncología del Hospital San Felipe, Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Material y Métodos:
Se realizó un estudio observacional analítico, retrospectivo, de corte transversal. La población estuvo compuesta por 31 pacientes diagnosticadas con cáncer de mama. La intervención incluyó evaluación y consejería nutricional, recomendaciones sobre actividad física, atención psicológica y seguimiento clínico. Se aplicó el cuestionario EORTC QLQ-C30 para medir la calidad de vida relacionada con el cáncer.
Resultados:
Las pacientes mostraron afectaciones significativas en las dimensiones física, emocional y funcional. La intervención evidenció mejoras en la percepción del estado general de salud, apetito, energía y adaptación al tratamiento. La pérdida de funcionalidad física y la fatiga fueron los síntomas más reportados antes de la intervención. Tras su implementación, se identificaron cambios positivos en los patrones de afrontamiento y participación en las actividades propuestas.
Discusión:
El enfoque integral de la intervención permitió atender dimensiones frecuentemente desatendidas en el tratamiento oncológico. La adaptación al contexto local y la participación activa de las pacientes fueron factores determinantes en la eficacia del programa.
Conclusiones:
El plan de intervención demostró ser viable y efectivo para mejorar la calidad de vida de las pacientes en consulta externa. Se recomienda su incorporación dentro del modelo institucional de atención oncológica.
