Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the food choices of health workers according to body image, healthy orthorexia and physical activity status.
Methods: This study was conducted using face-to-face interview technique with 137 health personnel who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study in a private hospital in Ankara between December 2022 - February 2023. Information on health and nutritional status, anthropometric measurements (height (cm), body weight (kg)) Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-34), Teruel Orthorexia Scale (TOS), Food Selection Questionnaire (FCQ), International The Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was administered.
Results: A total of 137 people, 69.3% female and 30.7% male, participated in the study. A significant difference was found between men and women in terms of mood, fitness, and body weight control factors in food selection (p<0.05). There was a significant difference between the groups with different body image dissatisfaction in terms of mood factor in food selection (p<0.05). In food selection, health factor affects healthy orthorexia positively and sensory attraction factor affects negatively (p<0.05 ß=0.326, ß=-2.605). Emotional state and body weight control factor positively affects orthorexia nervosa, while sensory attraction factor affects orthorexia nervosa negatively (p<0.05 ß=0.260, ß=0.291, ß= -0.426). There was no significant difference in terms of factors considered in food selection according to the physical activity status of health workers (p<0.05).
Conclusion: It was observed that women's body image dissatisfaction was higher than men's. The average of mood, fitness and body weight control factors that women pay attention to in food selection have a higher effect than men.It was concluded that food selection was associated with health and sensory attraction factor and healthy orthorexia score. The physical activities of health workers were found to be insufficient.
