Desarrollo y validación de una ecuación para predecir el gasto energético total en una muestra de adultos mexicanos.

Resumen

El objetivo del estudio fue desarrollar y validar una ecuación aplicable en adultos mexicanos para predecir el gasto total de energía (GET) basado en mediciones antropométricas y cuestionarios de actividad física. Para ello, se realizó un estudio de validación con una muestra de adultos mexicanos (n = 115, 37% hombres) que se dividió aleatoriamente en dos sub-muestras para desarrollar y validar nuevas ecuaciones para estimar el GET. Como método de referencia, el GET se midió mediante calorimetría indirecta y monitoreo de la frecuencia cardíaca durante al menos tres días. Se estimaron modelos de regresión lineal múltiple en los que los predictores del GET fueron la edad, el sexo, la masa grasa y sin grasa, el peso corporal y el nivel de actividad física (NAF), que se evaluó con dos preguntas. La ecuación desarrollada es la siguiente: GET (kcal / d) = 1331.712 - (686.344 x sexo, hombres: 1, mujeres: 2) + (18.051 x peso corporal, kg) - (16.020 x edad, años) + (894.007 x NAF). La precisión de la ecuación fue modesta en las sub-muestras de desarrollo (R2= 54.4, error estándar = 511.3) y validación (R2 = 59.2, error estándar = 372.8). Sin embargo, esta ecuación tuvo mayor precisión que los métodos factoriales (FAO/OMS o equivalentes metabólicos de Ainsworth) y las ecuaciones empíricas para estimar el GET. De este modo, se desarrolló una ecuación sencilla para estimar el GTE de los adultos mexicanos, que puede usarse como una guía general para proporcionar orientación nutricional.
