Abstract

Introduction: blue fish contains vitamins A, D, E, B6 and B12, as well as omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, beneficial for the development of the nervous system, the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and good immune status.

Objective: to analyze the consumption of blue fish in climacteric and no-climacteric women, as well as to verify if there are significant differences between both.

Method: cross-sectional descriptive study in 100 climacteric and no-climacteric women in a fork of age 25-85 years, living in Ciudad Real. Data collection: self-administered survey with Likert scale. Data analysis: Chi-square, significance value p, confidence intervals.

Results: 70% of climacteric women (n = 37; SD = 17.68; 95% CI = 20.55-28.45) and 29% of non-climacteric women (n = 12) have integrated blue fish in their diet, with significant differences:

Discussion: in study by Fernández of 425 women, no statistically significant differences were found between the climacteric and the consumption of polyunsaturated fats. According to the cohort study conducted by Dunneram et al. over 14,172 UK women a high intake of blue fish and fresh legumes was associated with a late onset of natural menopause.

Conclusions: there are statistically significant differences in the consumption of blue fish in climacteric and no-climacteric women.
