Introduction: Feeding and child-rearing are closely linked. Coparenting has been studied in general parenting, highlighting the importance of working collaboratively to promote optimal child development.
Objective: To analyze the available literature related to coparenting in the child feeding practices of parents with children under 12 years old in specialized databases that can provide updated information and generate important conclusions.
Material and Methods: A search was of the databases Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and Academic Search Complete. The search was limited to articles published between January 2012 and March 2022. Those that did not meet the content and quality requirements were excluded.
Results: Seven articles were included. Of the articles obtained, three were qualitative investigations to understand coparenting from the context of feeding. Conflicting child feeding practices between parents, support in decisions, undermining the father's parenting, among others, were the main themes exposed by parents. In the quantitative articles, it was identified that coparenting correlates with the use of food as a reward (β = - 0.23, t = 2.97, p < .01). It was also identified that having greater coparenting predicted the promotion of a balanced and varied diet (β = 0.13, p < .01), as well as the provision of a healthy home environment (β = 0.26, p < .001).
Conclusion: The results of the present systematic review highlight the importance and relevance of coparenting in child feeding practices. It was identified that high coparenting contributes to the promotion of healthy eating and balanced diet.
