Objective: To verify the effect of supplementation of an instant mixture based on cañihua, cocoa and bovine blood for the recovery of anemia in wistar rats.
Material and methods: An experimental study (randomized) was carried out in Wistar rats with an age range of 21-22 days old. The 24 animals were housed in cages (two per cage). All animals lived in light/dark cycles (12 h/12 h) in a constant temperature environment (24o C ± 2o C). Four experimental groups were formed: experimental group 1, experimental group 2, experimental group 3, experimental group 4 and control group. The experimental groups were supplemented with instant mix (cañihua, cocoa powder, bovine blood meal) and the control group without iron supplementation.
Results: The average age of the animals was 20-21 days old. There were significant differences in three experimental groups. In GE1 Hb increased by 40% (effect size -0.87), in GE2 it increased 22% (effect size-0.79) and in GE3 it increased 23% (effect size -0.79). The CG remained with relatively stable Hb values. There were no significant differences in the three experimental groups in Hb levels (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Supplementation with the instant mixture of cañihua, cocoa and bovine blood meal was effective in increasing hemoglobin levels in four weeks, which makes it a proactive strategy to increase hemoglobin levels
